A tieren cut into half.
Despite having very little shots of it complete, i still liked the tieren design. I bought the ground type instead of the space type because i think such a bulky suit will look awkward in space.
And i do not understand why must the custom one be in Pink. Tribute to Char probably. Or a decoy for the rest of the tierens...
1. Intro
Model: Tieren Ground Type
Size: 1/100 NG
Pilot: Sergei Smirnov and countless grunts whom we will never know.
Boxart:
I give full marks for the boxart. Dynamic looking- gives the the impression that it is a weapon of war.
At the side of the box we see some pics and explanations to show that there are some realistic mechanical details in the model.
Manual:
Always good to see manual art different from the boxart.
Price: 2800 yen
At 2800 yen this is a more expensive NG, as compared to ng arios which is 2600yen.
2. Parts
Head/torso
One of the main reason i picked the ng instead of the hg is because of the orange parts in the chest. If i am not mistaken, these are sticker in the HG. In the ng these orange parts are actual plastic parts. The silver parts on the shoulders are stickers covered by clear plastic parts. It is a very bulky model and the parts feel very big, especially after i just built my rg aile strike.( see its part 1 and 2 reviews)
The mono eye is a bright pink sticker on a clear part. To move the eye u need to detach the head then turn the eye part, which is a little troublesome.
There is much effort seen at the backpack. The realistic mechanical details are the pipe wiring and i think they look very good.
The torso also has a part that can be opened to slot in a standing figure as the pilot (poor fellow).
Arms:
The arms are so made up of big blocky parts but the attached shields have this rough texture. Must be the realistic mechanical details that they keep emphasizing.
Articulation is awesome for a NG, even the shield can twist around.
With only the arms attached, u can see the shoulder articulation is ridiculously good. It can slide all the way to the front as seen and the arm can support a HRL soldier though he probably should hide somewhere else.
Moving on to the waist it is still big block parts, though the spring-like part at the bottom looks nice.
Nothing special at the back except there are 2 hooks for securing the weapons.
The legs are humongous. The feet is the biggest feet as compared to my other models, probably about 50% larger on average. The left leg had the giant shield with the same mechanical details as before.
Awesome articulation, and is very surprising the leg can still balance itself.
Weapons and accessories
One word to describe it all: Bland. The white round parts on the machine gun are the only white plastic parts, i painted the handle of the carbon blade white. Which means the smoothbore canon ( weird name for a bazooka) , the carbon blade, the extra hand and the 3 HRL soldiers are all black, same tone of black.
The magazine itself is detachable, but the overall blandness and hollowness of the smoothbore canon really kept me from liking it.
3.Details and Articulation
All put together, my first impression is overall very positive. Until i notice the legs cannot hold the upper body very well and they do not well attach to the waist's ball joints. That is rather unexpected from a NG, especially one with such huge feet.
Articulation is really good for a NG. Details wise, although the model does have the realistic mechanical details at some parts such as the shield and the backpack, the overall model is still big and blocky. Construction process for most of the time is about slapping 2 giant parts together with a lot of polycaps in between. This model has a lot of polycaps, it uses 1 and a half sheet of polycaps.
4. Poseability
Wondering when did the carbon blade shows in the anime?
Here it is, the carbon blade was used to great effect in the special edition one where one of the tieren ground type holds up its shiny blade and saw exia 's reflection. After which there will occur plenty of slashes and none involved the carbon blade.
This is where we see the machine gun formally stated as the smoothbore cannon. It probably had not fired a single round before it got intervened.
Full props for the kneeling pose.
One major plus point of the kit is that it can mount all 3 weapons on at the same time. 2 in hand 1 at the back.
The machine gun can be supported by the leg armour and you can see the different texture of the leg armour here.
5.Sturdiness
The machine gun attaches onto the arm instead of holding it in the fist. This is very secure fortunately.
This is very secure too, despite the size of the bazooka. Much of the credit goes to the attachment with the backpack which has a polycap.
My major complain about the sturdiness are the legs, they actually fall off twice and i certainly did not expect that to happen to a NG with especially big parts. The legs also feel rather light due to their hollowness.
Other than that, there are no falling parts at all.
6. Conclusion
The awesomes:
1. Articulation is really good for a NG
2. Realistic Mechanical details are there.
3. All 3 weapons can be mounted/ equipped at the same time.
4. This kneeling pose.
5. It comes with 3 HRL soldiers.
6. No falling parts.
The not-so-awesomes:
1. Big, blockiness
2. Weapons are bland.
3. Legs are surprisingly unsteady
Details: 6.5/10 The weapons really are too bland, will be better if not for the weapons.
Articulation: 8/10 Good for a NG
Sturdiness: 7/10 Legs
Poseability: 6/10 Size and the blandness of weapons makes some poses look weird. I probably am wrong here since i suck at posing.
For 2800yen i am fairly pleased with the kit. If i had some metallic paint in the future i most likely will use them on the weapons. Construction is very beginner friendly too, though most beginners probably would not build this as their first kit.
There is one best part i forgot to mention. There is no need to buy an action base for this guy unless u want to show him being flinged into the air by exia. It is the tieren Ground type after all.

I think the smoothbore cannon isn't the bazooka, but rather the "machine gun" you called it.
ReplyDeleteO thanks you are right. Edited now. Really appreciate it!
