Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space

The third and final compilation movie ( see part 1 and part 2) begins with another recap, this time of the manliness of Ramba Ral.
Amuro Ray, met his father Tem Ray by chance.  Amuro was glad to see him alive, since Tem ray was sucked out of the colony when amuro first fought the zaku in his gundam. The poor fellow has lost his sanity though, due to the extended period of time in space.

Tem Ray working on a piece of equipment.
Tem Ray passes Amuro a piece of circuitry for his gundam, which he says will increase the rx78-2 's power.
Amuro does not believe that crap and throws it away. The circuitry remains till today one of the greatest mysteries in gundam history..  The fate of Tem Ray also remains unknown, as he falls down a flight of stairs later in the movie.

Amuro soon forgot about his father and by fate met Lala Sune who is a Newtype pilot working for Char. The movie did not specify her origins but some googling revealed that Char rescued her from an indian brothel, which brings up the question of why did Char pass by an indian brothel in the first place.
Anyway, Lala seems to have some problems with her sanity and she sprints along the lake happily when she met Amuro. Amuro was pretty pleased with that.
They met again and this time, Char was with Lala. Amuro's car broke down and Char comes to the rescue.

Despite owning cars and mobile suits, Char rides a white horse for sheer badassery.
The original funnels look pretty obnoxious as Lala used her Ma the Elmeth to great effect, taking out much of the Federation's forces while staying out of sight.
Happy horse riding and lake sprinting times soon came to an end when battle starts. Char pilots a Gelgoog commander type and battles Amuro.
They were evenly matched until Sayla Mass interfered and the gelegoog got an arm cut off when Char tried to avoid killing his sister.
Amuro took the chance and came in for the final kill. As the trend starter Lala steps in and got killed when the Rx78-2 's beam saber pierced the Elmeth. Lala spirits lingers in UC and many other pilots soon felt the desire to intervene and got killed by attacks not aimed towards themselves.

Lala's death intensified the greatest gundam rivalry and the path towards the final battle at A Baoa Qu.
Before that, Char had tea with Kycilia Zabi.
The one with the lousier fashion sense will get decapitated. Guess who.
The final battle commences and Char inspects the Zeong.
Rx78-2 defeats a Dom.
Zeong launches.
After intense battling, the legendary Rx78-2 loses its head.
The Zeong is left with its head.
Zakus get crashed by a asteroid.
Meanwhile.. Kycilia gets cocky with her purple outfit.
Gihren Zabi plotted to get Dozle Zabi killed. Then Kycilia took revenge and executes her brother Gihren.

Char and Amuro continue their duel with swords.
Classic scene of Amuro vs Char.
Captain Bright is no slouch either as he takes up a shot gun and orders the crew for hand-to-hand combat.
Sayla came in again and the duo stops fighting. Char picks up a bazooka and orders sayla to escapes.
Kycilia attempts to escape after Zeon had lost their decisive battle. However Char fires the bazooka straight at her head. 0.3 seconds later after the screenshot, the scene will be M18 by today's rating.
Char salutes. A good job well done.

Amuro escapes in the core fighter and is saved along with the other white base crew.

Verdict:
This is an amazing anime, especially so since it is made in 1979. The compilation movies do not feel rushed like the F91 movie, and the classic battles were great. Any self respecting gundam fans should watch this. After this i am moving on to Zeta gundam, to see why it is so well received.
My score of the 3 part compilation move: 7.5/10
Thumbs UP:
1. The start of Gundam
2. Pretty solid plot
3. Char and his horse
4. Bright Slap
5. Ramba Ral
6. The animation of the compilation is acceptable.

Thumbs Down:
1. Some goofy scenes like lala's lake sprint is really weird
2.  Amuro is quite a whinny dude.
3. The 3 kids are annoying to say the least.

                                                 The White Base Crew.
